Because sometimes you find a hostel that deserves its own article….
This was my second time in Iquique, Chile and I stayed at a different hostel this time…..and I’m thankful I did. Here’s 10 reasons why you should absolutely, positively, definitely, 100% stay at Feel Iquique Hostel.
It’s safe to say that Feel Iquique would win the “Best Location Award” in Iquique if that existed. Feel Iquique is located directly across the street from the beach. Not too many people can say they have an “ocean view room” at a hostel. Not only is it right next to the beach, but it’s close to Baquedano Street, which is the most beautiful street in Iquique filled with restaurants, bars, live performances, and the best gelato ever. It’s only a five minute walk to a large super market and less than ten minutes walking to the best clubs.
Everyone loves a good hostel BBQ – especially in South America where it is asado galore. When I arrived to Feel Iquique later in the evening, there was a BBQ happening. I asked the hostel owner Viktor if I could join in or if it was too late – I was welcomed to join and had one of the best hostel BBQ’s so far. (This is my 7th country in South America, if that says anything). I only paid 5,000 pesos and had different types of steak, choripan, salad, AND beer/wine. WORTH IT. Vegetarian option is also available (and equally as great).
The hostel is always cleaned and well-kept and Andres and the rest of the staff are to thank. The staff and volunteers at this hostel are always so kind and helpful. I was pretty sick one day at the hostel and spent most of the day in my bed – a few staff members took time out of their day to check on me and make sure I was doing okay. They’ve got a pretty good team goin’ on there.
In the midst of the hostel is the main common area – a room filled with tables and chairs, couches, hammocks, music, and cool decor. This is where everybody hangs out in the afternoon when they have down time – and this is where everyone gathers at night for the BBQ’s, hangout sessions, and good laughs. Grab one of the board games to keep you entertained and laughing. (Speak Out, Headbands, etc)
Hopping from hostel to hostel, you learn to appreciate the good beds. This hostel is newer, so the mattresses are new and super comfortable. I spent an entire day in one….so I can assure that they are quality. 😉
Another thing that can make or break a hostel? Showers. Feel Iquique has waterfall styled showers that ALWAYS have hot water. After spending 5 days in the desert showering with cold water and a shower head that only decided to work 50% of the time…..these were quite the upgrade.
Vibes are everything when it comes to hostels. You could be in the coolest hostel in the world – but if the staff and environment are lacking….then it’s worth nothing. At Feel Iquique it is beyond relaxed and super chill. There’s good music, good people, hammocks, FIFA 18, and an atmosphere that makes you feel at home. THAT is important. This place is a home away from home.
Say whaaaaat?! Yeah, apparently the owner knows the whole damn city. On weekends and holidays, you will get free entrance into some of the coolest clubs in Iquique….AND you’ll be in VIP. When I say “coolest clubs” – I mean you will literally be partying in a castle. Victor will take you out and make sure you have a good time….maybe you’ll get free fireball shots and MAYBE you wake up with your head in a garbage can. What happens in Feel Iquique….stays in Feel Iquique.
Is there anything better than finding an awesome hostel with an equally awesome kitchen? No. The answer is no. If you’re a seasoned traveler, you know that it is impossible to eat out every single meal. Thankfully, Feel Iquique has a big kitchen with everything you need to cook a good meal. Huge cutting boards, tons of pots and pans, dry storage, fridge storage, hella kitchen utensils, AND a microwave. (Shout out to hostels that understand how important a microwave can be).
I hate to say it because his ego doesn’t need to be any bigger (hehe), but the reason this hostel is so great is the owner Viktor. As soon as you enter the hostel, he welcomes you in and makes you feel at home within two minutes. He gets to know every single guest and he genuinely has a passion for this business. His job is to make sure you enjoy his hostel, make sure you’re having a good time, and make sure you leave that big “10” on HostelWorld 😉 If you ask anyone that has been here – they’ll say the same thing. As Viktor would say “I AM THE SOUL OF THIS HOSTEL!”
